Love is in the Air: Red Velvet French Toast

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and what a better way to celebrate than to create the perfect, romantic brunch item: Red Velvet French Toast! This recipe serves one or two people, perfect for an intimate breakfast with the person you love! Of course, you can always double or triple the recipe to serve at a party. A lot of people don’t know this, but the flavor “red velvet” isn’t just vanilla with red food coloring (and no, “red” is not a flavor). “Red velvet” cake is actually a chocolate cake with vanilla, buttermilk, and red food coloring. There are many different accounts on how “red velvet” was created, but my favorite version is that back in the olden days, the cocoa powder turned a red color combined with buttermilk in a cake. This chocolate cake wasn’t brown like we know chocolate cake to be today, but red. Nowadays to recreate that red colored chocolate cake, we add in red dye for that signature bright red look.

The Ultimate Birthday Treat: Death-By-Oreo Cupcakes

I have this thing I do. Basically, I bake a whole lot of sweets when it’s a birthday for any single one of my friends. Everyone gets a treat and celebrates the birthday girl’s special day together. But what’s kind of weird is I have a document that has my friend’s and family’s names on it filled with desserts that someday I want to make for that specific person based on their tastes and personalities. So when I’m surfing Pinterest, I jot down any dessert recipes that seem like a good fit for a specific friend or family member. I know that seems like a lot of work and is slightly creepy, but I find it really fun. Plus, I love to be organized, and this is a great way to organize recipes! So this specific friend’s favorite dessert is chocolate cake and she has this thing with Oreos, so what could be better for her birthday than Death-By-Oreo Cupcakes? Let’s get baking!

Yay! Another Gluten-Free Recipe: Matcha Microwave Mug Cake

So I’m sick. Life is just splendid. But see this dedication? I’m still blogging about mug cakes. Wow, I am such a trooper. Anyway… this is a continuation of the gluten-free mug cake thing I’m doing (should I call this a series?) for all those people in the world on a gluten-free diet. It is subtly sweet, full of the earthy flavor of matcha, and is light and spongy. Once again, even if you’re not gluten-free (like moi!) still give this one a shot! The color is amazing, and like all my other mug cake recipes, it is seriously a breeze to whip up! So let’s get started on this delectably fluffy and spongey, Matcha Microwave Mug Cake!
